Link Governor for Maths, Computing and DT

My first involvement with Bispham Drive Junior School was when my granddaughter moved from Banks Road here in September 2017.

I returned to education whilst raising 4 boys and achieved a degree in Business and Finance. I taught in local Colleges and became Faculty Director at South East Derbyshire College in the mid 90’s. I taught mathematics, finance and computer application for over 14 years.

I recently retired from running my own consultancy company that worked extensively with national, local and international governments covering a wide range of projects. I specialised in strategy development, regional governance, skills and education, employment and training, and laterly NHS change management.

I have always enjoyed learning, and gain immeasurably from the opportunities that education has given me. I really look forward to the privilege of being part Bispham Drive Junior School.

Charlotte King – Vice Chair

Parent Governor 22/03/2018 – 21/03/2022

Charlotte has signed the declaration of interest / register of business interest form. Nothing to declare.

Link Governor for History and Geography

I was appointed as a parent governor in March 2018. I decided to apply for the vacancy because I am passionate about education and making our children’s school experience the best it can be.

I have two boys aged 3 and 7 and am a strong believer in education both in school and beyond. I completed my BSc (hons) in Psychology in 2016 and went onto complete my CIPD in Human resources in 2018, I currently work for a large motor franchise as a personal assistant.

I have lived in Toton for the last 26 years and attended Banks Road, Bispham Drive and George Spencer so I am grateful to have now been given the opportunity to contribute to one of the schools which I grew up and have very fond memories of.

Mrs Mary Paterson

Co-opted Governor 12/10/2020 – 11/10/2024

Mary has signed the declaration of interest and the register of business interest form. Nothing to declare.

Link governor for data monitoring, Headteacher Appraisal and English.

I have many years’ experience in primary education and have taught years 1-6 in a variety of schools in Scotland and Berkshire. I have been Headteacher of both an Infant/Nursery school and a large, multi-cultural primary school which has given me an understanding of all aspects of school management and the KS2curriculum. On taking early retirement, I moved to Spain where my passion for education took me back into school and a job establishing a Special Needs Department in the local international school. I have been a governor at six schools during my career.

I moved to Toton with the arrival of my grandson, Finn, who spent four happy years at Bispham before moving to George Spencer. My younger grandson, Brodie, is currently in year 5. Since becoming a governor at Bispham five years ago, I have helped out in class each week which has not only been very enjoyable but has also afforded me a comprehensive insight into the work of the school.

Bispham Drive School is a good school and one which is constantly striving to improve. I am very keen to utilise my skills to support the team in achieving their aims and objectives and to help the children reach their potential.

Miss Christine Cox

Parent Governor 22/03/2018 – 21/03/2022

Christine has signed the declaration of interest / register of business interest form. Nothing to declare.

Link Governor for Maths, Computing and DT

I was appointed as a parent governor in March 2018. I have lived in and around Toton for most of my life (apart from a stint working abroad!) so I am pleased to have been given the opportunity to contribute to our community in this way. I am a strong believer in the value of education, both as a parent and as a teacher of 14-19 year olds. I have been teaching for 18 years.

I have two sons attending Bispham Drive, one of whom has extra support needs so I have a particular interest in this area. I also have an interest in the delivery of maths and the use of technology within education as these are areas of professional involvement for me. They are also areas of significance given the increasingly technological nature of our society.

Keeping our children safe in this rapidly changing environment and providing them with a balanced education, whilst still meeting the demands of the curriculum and restrictions of the budget is always going to be a challenge for our schools. As part of the governing body, I hope to play my part in helping to ensure that our school gives our children the best experience possible.

Mrs Pauline Laing

Co-opted Governor, 01/12/18 – 30/11/22

Pauline has signed the declaration of interest / register of business interest form. Nothing to declare.

Link Governor for SEN, Pupil Premium and Sports Funding

I moved to Nottingham in 1999 when my husband finished his career in the Army and we settled with our two children into the local area. I had the pleasure of being a Teaching Assistant at Bispham between 2005-2019 during which time I worked with many children across all year groups. In my spare time I like to keep informed of issues which affect Special Needs young people and I enjoy curling up in a quiet room listening to music and reading.

I became a Governor at Bispham in 2012 because I felt that my experience of being a forces’ family and a mum of two children, one who was gifted and talented and another who has Autism, ADHD and is registered Visually Impaired, were skills which I could use to support the school and the families who entrust their children to us. My role as a governor is to link with the SENCO and keep the Governing Body informed about Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and link with the Head Teacher for Pupil Premium and Sports Funding within our school.
